Furniture assembly in Los Angeles, built in the room it's for
We build IKEA and most other flat-pack, shimming the base where a floor slopes and strapping tall pieces to the wall. Send a photo of the boxes with the labels showing, and we text back a price within the hour.

The texts we get about flat-pack
- Six boxes from the delivery, still taped, stacked in the hall.
- A wardrobe that has to go in a room with an eight-foot ceiling.
- A dresser that rocks however you push it.
- A tall bookcase in a house with small kids.
- A desk someone started on a Sunday and gave up on.
Built where it will stand
Flat-pack is cut square at the factory. The floor in a 1920s bungalow or a hillside house often isn't. Build a dresser square on a floor that slopes and the doors don't meet and the drawers drift open, so we shim the base level before the frame goes together.
Tall pieces get built in the room they're for. A wardrobe frame built lying down can be too tall to tip upright under an eight-foot ceiling, so that kind gets built standing.
Then the strap. A tall bookcase or dresser gets fixed to the wall so it can't tip. The strap goes into a solid part of the piece, not its thin back panel, and into a stud at the wall end wherever one is in reach. In old plaster the screw that came in the box often doesn't reach the stud, so we use a longer one that does.
The number in the text is the number
If what we find at the door isn't what the photo showed, you hear it right there, before any work. Nothing changes without your OK.
How an assembly goes
- Send the photo. The boxes with their labels showing, or a link to the piece. Say which room, and which floor of the building.
- We text back the price, or one question. Within the hour, 7am to 7pm. The question is usually the ceiling height, or whether it gets strapped.
- Pick a morning or an afternoon. We confirm the visit by text.
- At the door. Shoe covers go on before we step inside, and a cloth goes down under the work. Then we read the price from your text back to you, so we both start from the same number.
- The build. The base gets shimmed level before the frame goes together. Doors and drawers are adjusted until they close flush, and the strap goes on last.
- You open every drawer. Offcuts and the little parts bags go in our bag, and the invoice lands in the thread with your price.
What moves the price of an assembly
- What's in the boxes. A nightstand and a wardrobe with sliding doors are different afternoons. The labels tell us which.
- Strapping to the wall. Quick into drywall. Old plaster and brick take longer, and the price says so.
- The way in. Heavy boxes up a third-floor walk-up, or a building that needs the manager's OK.
Several pieces in one message come back priced together, for one visit.
What you get
- Each piece built where it will stand, with doors that meet and drawers that stay shut.
- Tall pieces strapped to the wall, into a stud wherever one is in reach.
- A year on our workmanship. If something we did starts acting up, text us a picture of it. We book the trip back from that photo, and that visit is free.
Furniture assembly, asked by text
Can you price it from a photo of the boxes?
Usually, yes. The labels tell us the piece and how many cartons it comes in. A link to the product page works too.
Do you build IKEA?
Yes, and most other flat-pack. A wardrobe system with sliding doors takes longest, and the price reflects it.
What about all the cardboard?
Say so in the message if you want it gone. It goes on the price as its own line, so you can decide.
