Screen door repair and new window screens in Los Angeles

Most torn screens need only fresh mesh, and a patio screen door that jumps its track usually rolls again on new wheels. Send a photo of the screen in its window and the price comes back by text within the hour.

Free to quote. Or text the photo to (310) 857-2520.

The texts we get about screens

  • Mesh the dog pushed out of the bottom corner.
  • A screen gone gray and brittle on a window that takes the afternoon sun.
  • A sliding screen door that hops off its track or won't roll.
  • A steel casement window with no screen at all, because nothing from the store fits it.
  • A screen that falls out every time the Santa Anas blow.

Screen replacement: new mesh, or a new frame

Most screens need new mesh and nothing more. If the frame hasn't bent and the corners still hold, the old mesh and spline come out and new ones are rolled into the same frame.

A bent or cracked frame won't hold mesh tight, so that screen gets a new frame, cut to the opening. A frame that's a little big can be trimmed down. One that's too small can't be made bigger, so we measure before anything is cut.

Steel casement windows are their own case. You find them on a lot of Spanish revival houses from the 1920s and 30s, and a screen off the shelf never fits them. We make the frame to the window's measurements and it sits in the opening the way the original did.

If the dog is why you're writing, ask for pet mesh, a heavier weave made to take a paw. On a window that bakes in the Valley afternoon, solar mesh shades the room.

If what we find at the door isn't what the photo showed, you hear it right there, before any work. Nothing changes without your OK.

Sliding patio screen doors

A patio screen door hangs on small wheels, and the bottom ones run in the track everybody walks over. When a wheel wears flat or a foot dents the track, the door hops out. Most come back with new wheels and the track trued up. A bowed bottom rail is the exception: a new screen door often costs less than saving that one, and the reply tells you which.

How a screen job goes

  1. Send the photo. The screen in its window, and how many windows need one. For a missing screen, add the width and height of the opening if you can.
  2. We text back the price, or one question. Within the hour, 7am to 7pm.
  3. Pick a morning or an afternoon. We confirm the visit by text.
  4. At the door. Shoe covers go on before we step inside, and a cloth goes down under the work. Then we read the price from your text back to you, so we both start from the same number. Screens come out and get worked on the cloth, inside or on the patio.
  5. Back in and tried. Every screen seated and latched, and a slider rolled end to end.
  6. The old mesh leaves with us. The invoice lands in the same text thread as your price.

What moves the price of a screen job

  • New mesh or a new frame. A screen frame made to measure can be a good share of the price, so it sits on its own line where you can see it.
  • Which mesh. Plain fiberglass costs the least. Pet and solar mesh are heavier and cost more.
  • The access. An upstairs screen that only comes off from outside needs a ladder, and the price says so.

Every screen in the house can go in one message, and they come back priced together, for one visit.

What you get

  • Screens that sit flat in their windows and stay in when the wind blows.
  • A year on our workmanship. If something we did starts acting up, text us a picture of it. We book the trip back from that photo, and that visit is free.

Screens, asked by text

Can you price screens from a photo?

Usually, for new mesh. For a new frame the reply asks for the size of the opening, or we measure at the visit and confirm the price before anything is cut.

Can you fix the glass too?

No. Broken glass goes to a glazier. If the screen took damage as well, send the photo anyway and we price the screen.

Point your phone at it. We'll text back a price within the hour.
