What the photo should show, depending on where you are in the Valley

On the flats, one picture of the room usually gives us what we need, because it shows the wall, the floor and how big the job is. A kitchen chair or a lamp in the shot helps us with the size.
Older bungalows, in Pacoima and elsewhere
In an older bungalow, we look at the woodwork around the problem as much as the problem itself. Please include the door casing or the baseboard, and tell us if you know roughly when the house was built.
Apartments along Sepulveda and Van Nuys boulevards
Give us the floor and the nearest cross street, and take the picture the way you would anywhere else. If your wall backs onto the next apartment, tell us that too.
Hillside homes in Sherman Oaks
Up in the hills we also need to see how we get to your door. Add a picture from the street that shows the driveway or the steps, because the carry goes into the price.

A patio door that drags
For a patio door repair or any other door repair, open the door halfway and photograph the bottom track from inside, then take the whole door from a few steps back.
Holes in the drywall
We are glad to look at patching holes in drywall, and the size and the texture are what we need to see for drywall and plaster repair. Lay a ruler beside the hole and then show the wall around it.
A tub faucet to replace
Take one picture of the faucet, one of the handle if it is separate, and one of the wall around them. If what we see looks like work for a plumber, the reply says so.
